"Full of sophisticated musicianship and striking lyricism" - Living Blues Magazine
Award-winning singer-songwriter Cécile Doo-Kingué is one of Canada's most distinctive guitarists. Born and raised in New York City to Cameroonian parents and now based in Montréal, she creates music where blues, soul, jazz, Afro-roots and chanson française converse. Balancing fire and finesse, groove and storytelling, her performances are as emotionally resonant as they are exhilarating.
A commanding performer with a rare ability to balance fire and finesse, Doo-Kingué delivers concerts that are as emotionally resonant as they are groove-driven. Her blistering guitar work, velvety vocals and incisive songwriting have earned her a reputation as one of Canada's most compelling live artists.
As a Black, openly queer artist leading from the guitar in a genre where such voices remain rare, Doo-Kingué continues to expand the possibilities of blues and roots music through authenticity, musical excellence and fearless storytelling.
Over the course of her career, she has shared the stage and/or recorded with artists including Blind Boys of Alabama, Tower of Power, Angélique Kidjo, Youssou N'Dour, Manu Dibango, Bernard Purdie, James Blood Ulmer, Jim Byrnes, Shakura S'Aida and the Montreal Jubilation Choir. Her four critically acclaimed albums have earned multiple Maple Blues Award nominations, while Gris received the 2013 Fondation SPACQ Edith Butler Award for Excellence in Francophone Songwriting.
Following a health hiatus, Doo-Kingué returns with renewed fire, new music and the unmistakable artistry that continues to captivate audiences in Canada and beyond. Her fifth studio album will be released in spring 2027.
